(A Shirakawa Girl)
1986
Size P20 (72.7cm x 53.0cm)

Shirakawa girls traditionally sold flowers around Kyoto, balancing a basket of flowers on their heads as they walked around the city.
I wanted to paint a Shirakawa girl for a long time. At last, I was permitted to paint the granddaughter of the chairman of the Shirakawa Girl Preservation Society. I painted her relaxing by her basket of flowers.
