(Spring Wind)
1995
Size M50 (116.7cm x 72.7cm)
The plum blossom is one of my favorite flowers. Every spring I go in search of plum blossoms to sketch. I was inspired by a poem by Michizane Sugawara, which reads: “Plum flowers! Don't forget the springtime, even though your master is no longer with you. When an easterly wind blows, be sure to send me your sweet fragrance.” I wanted to paint a painting of a maiko against a background of plum blossoms.
