(Dance of the Devas)

On April 10, early in the flower festival season, I received a phone call from the wife of the priest at Hasedera Temple. She informed me that a Chinese exchange student from Tokai University was going to perform a votive dance called “Dance of the Devas,” so I took my sketching equipment and hurried over. The Chinese woman was perfectly balanced and graceful, and the quality of the dancing was superb; this piece was a joy to create.
