Thank you for visiting the official website of Goyoh Ohtake, a renowned Japanese painter.
The Genyadana school of painting owes its heritage to Toyoharu Utagawa, who provided the inspiration that led to the Utagawa and Hiroshige schools of ukiyo-e (literally, “illustrations of the floating world”); the tradition was carried on through Kuniyoshi Utagawa, Yoshitoshi Tsukioka and Toshikata Mizuno until the modern era, when it was continued by the great masters of bijinga (pictures of beautiful women), Kiyotaka Kaburaki and Shinsui Ito. Goyoh Ohtake studied the traditional methods under the tutelage of Shinsui Ito, and then, after receiving his traditional pseudonym, began working as an independent ukiyo-e artist. He continues to create bijinga for the modern era.
His fresh world of bijinga, created using these time-honored traditional methods, is gracefully gorgeous and delicate beyond compare. While respecting the traditions passed down by the masters, his unique works create a sublime world of bijinga filled with a sense of elegance that captures the heart of the viewer, permanently.
This website has been created with the intention of introducing the works of Goyoh Ohtake to as many people as possible. On the Gallery page, more works will be added on a regular monthly basis to those which are currently on display. Take some time to enjoy the works. It gives us great pleasure to know that they are appreciated.
